Our Story

Grenadier Brewing Company was born from the recognition there is a missing element in the Ontario liquids market.

We were five friends with nothing in common. But if there are two things Canadians love, it’s good beer and good company. We came together with a common goal: bring lager back. We set out to craft a clean, crisp and well-balanced Canadian classic. We’ve done the work, and are proud to bring you Grenadier Premium Lager. Brewed with 100% natural ingredients and cold-filtered, no preservatives.

A Grenadier was originally a specialized soldier, first established as a distinct role in the mid-to-late 17th century, for the throwing of grenades and sometimes assault operations. At that time Grenadiers were chosen from the strongest and largest soldiers and earned higher pay and received special privileges. By the 18th century, dedicated grenade throwing of this sort was no longer relevant, but Grenadiers were still chosen for being the most physically powerful soldiers and would lead assaults on the field of battle.
Grenadier Brewing Co. is proudly named after The Royal Grenadiers, one of the oldest army regiments in the Canadian forces and the roots can be traced back to 1862. The Royal Grenadiers eventually amalgamated with the Toronto Regiment to become the Royal Regiment of Canada. The Royal Grenadiers’ name and traditions are alive today in the main rifle company of the The Royal Regiment of Canada as Grenadier Company.
The Grenade is the symbol that represents the Grenadier. It is currently worn on the collars and cap badges of many infantry regiments in Canada and around the world.
